These pages are a good-faith starting point written for a small educational site, not legal advice. Before you publish, have someone qualified in your jurisdiction review them — particularly the liability, governing-law and student-data sections.
What this site is
A free educational tool that helps students in undergraduate chemistry courses decide whether using a generative AI tool on a specific piece of work is appropriate. It is guidance, not permission, and it does not replace your institution’s rules. See the disclaimers, which form part of these terms.
Acceptable use
You may use the site for personal study or for teaching. You may not attempt to disrupt or overload it, misrepresent its output as an institutional authorisation, or present its content as your own original work in a submission. You may not use it to help anyone commit academic misconduct.
Your licence to reuse the content
Instructors are welcome to reproduce and adapt the text, the four-question test and the three lists for non-commercial teaching use in their own courses, with attribution to this site. If you want a formal licence to point to, apply a Creative Commons licence of your choosing to your fork and state it here — pick one deliberately rather than leaving this sentence in place.
The name and logo are excluded from that permission. Do not use them in a way that suggests your adaptation is the original or is endorsed by it.
Instructor configuration links
The instructor page lets you encode your own course wording into a shareable link. That wording is stored in the link itself and in the visitor’s browser — not on any server we control. You are responsible for the accuracy of the policy text you distribute, and for making sure it matches your institution’s actual rules. Do not put personal data, credentials or anything confidential into those fields, because anyone holding the link can read them.
Warranties and liability
The site is provided without warranty of any kind, as set out in the disclaimers. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the site operator excludes liability for all indirect and consequential loss, and total liability for any claim relating to the site is limited to zero, reflecting the fact that it is provided free of charge. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.
You agree to indemnify the site operator against claims arising from your misuse of the site or from policy text you distribute using it.
Changes and termination
These terms and the content may change at any time; the review date in the footer will move when they do. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept it. Access may be withdrawn or the site retired without notice.
Governing law and disputes
Not set. This section is deliberately incomplete. Fill in SITE.jurisdiction in src/content.mjs with the place the site is actually operated from, then rebuild.
An earlier draft of this page named a jurisdiction and claimed its courts had exclusive jurisdiction. That was removed, and it is worth explaining why rather than quietly swapping it out.
Naming a governing law you have no connection to is not a protection, it is a misstatement. And an exclusive-jurisdiction clause against consumers is frequently unenforceable anyway — in the UK, the EU and many other places a consumer keeps the right to sue in their own country regardless of what a website’s terms say. A clause like that mainly serves to discourage people who do not know that, which is not a footing this site wants to stand on.
What belongs here instead: the law of wherever you are established, a plain statement that mandatory consumer protections survive, and a severability sentence. That is what appears once the field is filled in.
Credits and third-party licences
Typefaces are used under the SIL Open Font Licence 1.1, with the full licence text served alongside them: Young Serif, Work Sans and JetBrains Mono. They are self-hosted, so no font service receives your visit.
Every icon and the logo were drawn for this site as inline SVG. No icon library, stock artwork or third-party imagery is used anywhere, so there is nothing here that anyone else holds rights in.
There are no analytics scripts, no advertising scripts, no fonts from a content delivery network, no embedded videos and no third-party cookies. The only code running is the site’s own.
